Hiring the SDR is the easy part.
The manager, playbook, data, and coverage behind that rep decide whether outbound works. Here's what each option really costs, including where hiring in-house wins.
See if outsourcing is right for youYOUR STARTING POINT
Building a department or expanding one?
Build your first SDR department
You have a clear buyer and an offer that sells. You need the reps, playbook, data, coaching, and reporting to turn outbound into a managed function. UpRoar builds and runs that function with you.
Add capacity to an established team
Keep the infrastructure that works. UpRoar can add managed SDR capacity for a new territory, segment, or staffing gap, working within your existing targeting, CRM, and handoff process.
The estimate below models building a new function. If your tools, playbook, and management are already in place, compare the incremental cost of adding capacity.

Management is shown as allocated capacity, not automatically an additional cash expense. Already have the tools and a recruiting process? Your number will be lower. Starting from scratch? It may be higher. If you're only hiring one or two reps, you may not hire a manager at all. That work lands on you.
THE INFRASTRUCTURE BEHIND THE REP
Tech stack: the foundation for outbound.
A strong foundation needs these capabilities. One platform may cover several, and tools you already own should count toward the setup.
CRM & pipeline tracking
A shared record of accounts, contacts, activity, handoffs, and opportunities.
Contact data & verification
Accurate buyer information, verified contact details, and maintained prospect lists.
Account research & signals
Company and buyer research, account changes, and relevant reasons to reach out.
Calling & coaching
A dialer, call logging, and recording or review capabilities configured appropriately for your outreach.
Email & follow-up
Sending infrastructure, sequencing, suppression lists, and deliverability monitoring.
Scheduling & reporting
Calendar booking, routing, meeting outcomes, and visibility into activity and opportunity progression.
The $17,000 in the cost example is a planning allowance, not a required shopping list. UpRoar can work inside your existing systems or provide the tools and data your team needs.
The in-house example is a planning budget, not an industry average. Compensation reflects The Bridge Group's 2025 SDR report median OTE of $80K ($55K base, $25K variable). Three-month ramp and 1.9-year tenure come from that study. Employer Social Security and Medicare are modeled at 7.65% of $80K; other employer costs may apply. Benefits ($12K), tools ($17K), recruiter fee ($12K), and management compensation ($150K allocated across 3–5 reps) are planning assumptions. Management allocation is shown separately from cash spending. CRM onboarding applies only when the platform subscription incurs it. Coaching research is observational and comes from a single pharmaceutical organization; it does not establish an outsourcing advantage. The 52% figure is from a SaaStr community survey, not a representative industry attrition study. The $150K manager budget is a planning assumption; SyncGTM's 2026 guide lists typical sales development manager OTE of $100K–$160K. Allocating that budget across 3–5 reps is our model assumption, not a benchmark for team size.
THE OUTSOURCED OPTION
What UpRoar costs
Less than building it yourself. For a one-rep engagement, our fixed year-one fees come in below the in-house estimate, and that includes the rep, an assigned sales manager, research, copywriting, and coverage if a rep leaves.
Pricing depends on team size and scope. Qualified-meeting fees are additional to fixed fees. We'll walk you through the full cost on a call.

A rep doesn't replace a manager. Hiring one creates work for one.
Someone has to turn your market into a list, turn your positioning into conversations, and notice when a busy activity report is hiding a real problem.
Good management is specific. Listen to the calls. Diagnose the issue. Practice the fix. Check whether the next conversations get better. A dashboard full of activity isn't a coaching program.
Research backs the importance of coaching quality. A study of 1,246 sellers found that a manager's coaching skill was associated with sales-goal attainment. More frequent coaching did not automatically help when coaching skill was low.
• Weekly 1:1 coaching and call review with every rep
• A weekly update meeting with your team
• Targeting, messaging, and performance owned by your assigned manager
If you build the function in-house, someone on your team needs the time and skill to own that work.
Hiring, ramping, and closing run on different clocks
Hiring takes however long recruiting takes. Then the average SDR needs about three months to reach full productivity. Then meetings still have to turn into revenue through your sales cycle.
With UpRoar, your team doesn't run the recruiting process. We plan staffing and launch with you. Our reps still need to learn your product, your buyers, and what the market says back. Anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling.
When a rep leaves
Average SDR tenure is about 1.9 years, per The Bridge Group. In a SaaStr community survey, 52% of respondents said their SDRs didn't last 12 months. At some point, your rep moves on or gets promoted.
In-house, you're back to another search, another ramp, and covering the gap.
At UpRoar, replacement is immediate. To date, no client has had a gap in coverage because of headcount.
You set the direction. We run the SDR function.

Your team provides the tools, data, workflows, and reporting.
UpRoar
We use your stack or provide the tools and data you need, with weekly client updates.
Coverage & continuity

UpRoar
We cover it immediately. You don't run the search.
What stays with you
Product expertise. Strategic direction. Discovery and closing. Your team remains the product authority and owns the sales conversations that follow.
You own the data. We recommend our team work inside your CRM. Every process, conversation, and record we build stays with you.
When building in-house is the right call
• A proven outbound motion worth scaling
• A playbook that already works
• A manager with real capacity to coach
• Enough ongoing work to justify the operating investment
If you're not there yet, we'll build it with you.
One more thing. If your positioning isn't settled, or your team can't follow up on meetings, outsourcing won't fix that. Neither will hiring.
See what it would cost for your team.
